Hi,
Nice pictures of Ruby point. I would like to know where exactly is this on south rim? It is not depicted on the maps of nps.gov. Can you please give me the directions to this overlook? Appreciate it.
Ruby Point is a designated South Rim campsite that can be accessed via Pasture Wash Road west of Grand Canyon Village. Be advised the road can be in bad condition during extreme weather and there is a $25 fee to cross the Havasupai Reservation boundary.
I have been trying to located Ruby Point on all Grand Canyon maps available online but have had no luck finding it. Planning on taking a trip out there in June and would like some advice or directions on finding this point for an overnight stay.
Forest Route 328 (also called Pasture Wash Road) just north of Tusayan will take you out to the South Bass Trailhead. The road can be rough, high clearance and/or 4 WD is recommended. The drive takes about 2 hours and you may have to pay the $25 fee to cross the Havasupai reservation. About a half mile south of South Bass Trailhead there is a spur road that heads east to Signal Hill and Ruby Point (which overlooks Ruby Canyon). These are designated camping spots and you will need a permit from the backcountry office. Not sure about online maps, but a Kaibab National Forest map and the Grand Canyon Trails Illustrated map will be helpful.
