  1. I’m going to hike the Grand Canyon with two of my friends next week Wednesday, March 14 to the 19
we plan on going down the Tanner trail then to the Escalante trail and then to Grandview Point and Horse shoe Mesa – we’ve hiked all over the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail in Vermont climbing Camel’s Hump over 4,000 feet.
My question is should we not hike Tanner Trail in your opinion because we haven’t hiked the Canyon at all?
Should we pick an easier trail?
The Renagers said the first part of the hike right now has some snow and ice – we’ll be wearing spikes.
My wife thinks I’m crazy and says I shouldn’t go.
    What are your thoughts?
    Thanks
    Michael

  2. Hi Michael,

We were out hiking so this delayed response may be too late for your trip, but your group should be fine as long as everyone is mentally and physically prepared. Many would say that’s an aggressive itinerary for a 1st-timer, but that was our exact 1st trip as well. Despite getting lost briefly, paranoia about flash floods through 75-Mile Canyon, and flirting with hypothermia on Horseshoe Mesa it was a great hike!
